We collect the minimum data needed to operate the Service, keep it secure, and give you personalised recommendations. Here's exactly what we collect and why.

1. Who is responsible for your data
UniScout Technologies Pvt. Ltd. ("UniScout", "we") is the data controller for personal information processed through the UniScout app and website. Our registered office is in Mumbai, India. For privacy questions, email support@uniscout.com.
2. What we collect

Account data: name, email, hashed password, role, account creation timestamp.
•
Profile data you provide: study level, intended major, education country, grades / GPA, entrance exam scores, preferred countries, budget.

Usage data: features you use, credit transactions, chat & essay interactions with the AI advisor, shortlist and timeline entries.
•
Payment data: payment status and Razorpay order / payment IDs. We do NOT store card numbers, CVVs or bank details — Razorpay handles those directly.
•
Device data: a device identifier so your profile persists across sessions, plus basic technical data (browser, OS) for debugging.
3. Why we use it
•
To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
•
To personalise matching, eligibility checks, cost estimates and AI advice.
•
To process payments, deduct Credits and send receipts.
•
To send transactional email (password reset, purchase confirmation, important service notices).
•
To prevent abuse, fraud and violations of our Terms.
•
To improve the product, measured via aggregated and anonymised analytics.
4. Who we share it with
We share only what is strictly needed, and only with vetted processors acting on our instructions:
•
Razorpay — to process payments.
•
Resend — to deliver transactional email.
•
OpenAI, Anthropic and Google — to power the AI advisor and essay review. Your inputs are sent to these providers to generate responses.
•
Cloud hosting providers — to run our backend and database.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with any university, test-prep company or placement agent for marketing purposes.
5. Where your data is stored
Data is stored on secure servers. Some processors (notably the AI providers and payment processor) may be located outside India. We only use providers that offer appropriate contractual safeguards for cross-border transfers.
6. How long we keep it
•
Account & profile data: for as long as your account is active, plus up to 12 months after closure for legal, tax and fraud-prevention purposes.
•
Payment records: retained for at least 8 years to meet Indian tax and accounting requirements.
•
AI chat & essay content: retained for the active session and up to 90 days for service improvement; you may request earlier deletion.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, port or delete your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise these rights by emailing support@uniscout.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.
8. Security
We protect your data using industry-standard measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS), salted-and-hashed passwords (bcrypt), least-privilege access for engineers, and audit logging of sensitive operations. No system is perfectly secure, so please also help us by using a strong, unique password and keeping your email account safe.
9. Children
The Service is intended for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Cookies & similar technologies
On the web app we use a minimal set of local storage and session tokens needed for login and preferences — no third-party advertising cookies.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service evolves. Material changes will be notified via in-app notice or email. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
